What Is a TrxID? Meaning, Where to Find It, and How to Use It

A TrxID is the transaction ID that a wallet app such as bKash, Nagad or Upay gives to one single payment. It is a short code of letters and numbers, and it usually appears in the payment SMS and in the app's transaction history. Shops ask for it so they can find that exact payment on their own phone. A TrxID alone does not prove that money arrived, because anyone can type one.

What does TrxID mean?

TrxID is short for transaction ID. Each time a wallet processes a Send Money payment, it gives that payment a code that is meant to be unique. Think of it as a receipt number. If a customer writes 'I have paid', the TrxID lets you point to one specific payment instead of scrolling through every message on your phone.

The look of a TrxID differs between providers, and providers can change their formats over time. It is usually a mix of capital letters and digits. Do not decide whether a TrxID is real by its length or pattern. The only reliable test is whether a matching payment exists in your own SMS or wallet app.

Where do you find a TrxID?

The wording and layout depend on the provider and the app version. The easiest way to learn where it sits is to open one real payment message from your own wallet and find the code in it.

Is the TrxID the same on bKash, Nagad and Upay?

No. Each provider creates its own IDs in its own format, so a bKash TrxID does not necessarily look like a Nagad or Upay one. The label can also differ: one message may say TrxID, another Transaction ID. What stays the same is the idea. It is one code for one payment.

A Upay caveat: the two sides may see different IDs

In one real Upay payment made through a Bangla QR, the TrxID shown in the payer's app was different from the TrxID in the SMS that the merchant received. We saw this once and do not know how often it happens, so treat it as a warning, not a rule.

If a customer gives you a TrxID that you cannot find in your messages, do not accuse them straight away. Ask for the exact amount and the time of payment, then search your SMS or statement by amount and time. The code they copied may be the payer-side ID.

Why do shops ask customers for a TrxID?

All of these are useful. None of them makes the TrxID a proof of payment, which brings us to the main point.

Why a TrxID is not proof by itself

A TrxID typed into a form or a chat is just text. A customer can type a random code, copy one from an old payment, copy one from a friend's payment, or send an edited screenshot. If you mark an order paid only because a TrxID was given, you are trusting the customer, not the wallet.

What makes the check meaningful is matching the TrxID against something you control. A message on your own phone or a line in your own wallet statement is evidence. A code typed by the customer is only a claim.

A simple checklist before you mark an order paid

  1. Find the payment in your own SMS inbox or wallet app. Do not rely on a screenshot.
  2. Check that the TrxID in your message matches the one the customer gave, keeping the Upay caveat above in mind.
  3. Check that the amount is exactly the order total, not close to it.
  4. Check that the time is recent and fits the order, and that the payment went to the right wallet number.
  5. Check that this TrxID has not already been used for another order.
  6. For a large order, look at your wallet balance in the app before you ship.

Common mistakes shops make with TrxIDs

Checking TrxIDs automatically with QRPayBD

If you receive many orders, doing this by hand gets slow. QRPayBD does the same check for you. A free Collector app on the shop's Android phone reads the payment-received SMS and sends it to your QRPayBD account. When the customer enters the TrxID on the QRPayBD payment page, or types the order reference (QP-XXXX) in the wallet app's Reference field, QRPayBD looks for a matching message with the exact amount, marks the order paid and tells your store. One TrxID can confirm only one order.

Some honest limits. The message readers for bKash, Nagad and Upay have been verified on real payments, and Rocket and banks are planned. This is not an official wallet API, and SMS can be delayed, missed or forged, so check your balance for big payments. QRPayBD never holds your money and never asks for your PIN, password or OTP.
